‘Lucy’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. Jim Jones has compared writing for Maaya Sakamoto’s new album to that on ‘Lucy’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Maaya Sakamoto energies, virtually a rebirth. IT makes me wanna dance!
The sound in Mameshiba is really warm and Maaya Sakamoto’s signature voice is still very much present. Charming song, great melody. I think Alkaloid is the best song Maaya Sakamoto has ever done. Koucha is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. Kinobori to Akai Skirt is one of these floating songs. Life is good is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit. Honey bunny is possibly the best song Maaya Sakamoto has come up. T-Shirts is the most memorable and gorgeous. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in Lucy. Rule~Iro Asenai Hibi is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Maaya Sakamoto released so far.
