After seeing Caravan, I had to have a good The Carpenters cd. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of The Carpenters on ‘Caravan’. This -song debut EP shows the promise that The Carpenters has. This album is awesome.
The Parting Of Our Ways pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. Looking For Love very upbeat. I’ll Be Yours - The Carpenters first major hit. Iced Tea motivates you to get up and do something to improve your life and the life of others. You’ll Love Me (2:27) Not one of my favorites, but for a lot of people this is one of their best songs. Listening to All I Can Do you can hear that The Carpenters has still amazing chemistry with band members. The Essential Collection 1965-1997 (Disc 1) couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Don’t Be Afraid. Invocation is really a nice song to relax and listen too. I can’t stop playing Your Wonderful Parade. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in The Essential Collection 1965-1997 (Disc 1). It took me a little time but I ended up loving Eve. Ticket To Ride - Okay, I just talked about depth. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Interview is my favorite song on The Essential Collection 1965-1997 (Disc 1). Love Is Surrender is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after The Essential Collection 1965-1997 (Disc 1) have ended. This track is just a stunning masterpiece. (They Long To Be) Close To You stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. The Carpenters has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. I was truly moved when I heard We’ve Only Just Begun. Merry Christmas Darling is simple, dignified and effective, The Carpenters refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. So much energy, so exciting a sound.
