On Ljubljana, 1964 album, Oscar Peterson have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Lead single “Blues in the praries” and “Hymn to freedom” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Since completing 2002’s ‘Blues in the praries’, Oscar Peterson fulfilled their contract with ForeFront Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Blues in the praries and Hymn to freedom is really good.
Hymn to freedom is a song to enjoy for years to come. I remember Clifford - My least favorite song on this album. Best song on the album, love it. This song is very powerful, its catchy melody will have you singing along in no time. Someday my prince will come without a doubt is the standout song of Ljubljana, 1964. Tangerine is the funkiest number on the album. Waltz for Debby is Oscar Peterson’s best work in years. I find myself hearing bits of Yours is my heart alone here and there throughout my waking hours.
