This disc has all of the essential Calexico classics. Calexico’s debut, ‘Travelall’, does not fit easily into one genre. Since completing 2000’s ‘The Waves Crashing Silently Through The Dominator’s Hull’, Calexico fulfilled their contract with Columbia Records and where under no obligation to release another album. I greatly enjoyed this CD.
Fine Patina is one of the more up-tempo songs on Travelall. It took me a little time but I ended up loving The Night Is Upon Us. Voice and instruments in Cachaba complement each other. Driving To Get Away catches attention immediately, This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. Opening track Lunada Lando shows the best of Calexico. Piker Sam is flawed, nonetheless pretty good song. Album opener Flat Handed & On The Wing is a bright, upbeat ditty.
