It has been eleven years David Benoit’ last studio CD, “Right Here, Right Now” which won Array MTV Music Awards and was nominated for album of the year. There is no doubt that David Benoit has talent. Right Here, Right Now isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. This is one of the best cd’s i have heard through the whole thing.
Once you hear Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight, you will listen to it over and over. David Benoit sings Jellybeans and Chocolate in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. David Benoit must have run out of lyrics on the next track Le Grand. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of David Benoit. Right Here, Right Now gives taste of what makes David Benoit special as a musician. Music and lyrics of Swingin’ Waikiki creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. Third Encounter is astounding. Watermelon Man is one of the more up-tempo songs on Right Here, Right Now. Within the first few notes of Wistful Thinking it’s perfectly clear that David Benoit is living this song.
