It has been ten years Chinese Music’ last studio CD, “Gu Yan” which won Array Grammy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Chinese Music energies, virtually a rebirth. On Gu Yan album, Chinese Music have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in Gu Yan. It’s also one of those rare songs that touchingly comfort the listener. Xing Yun Liu Shui is a great song to contemplate the modern music and what it really is all about. Mao Yung Xiao have really caught my ear and imagination. Dao Chui Lian - arguably the best track on Gu Yan album. Yue Ye presents the astounding mix of instruments on Gu Yan. Tin Yu is the albums biggest surprise. After about the third Da Yan listen through, I began to believe this song is Chinese Music’s essence. This song is dynamic and dramatic. Unknow is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Chinese Music ever produced. This track is clearly meant to showcase Chinese Music’s vocal abilities.
