On the Japan charts, superstar George Duke’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. This disc has all of the essential George Duke classics. After debuting at No. 1 last week, George Duke’s album Face The Music falls to No. 2 with 340,000, a sales slide of 95%. This is what good Jazz should be.
One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Another Way To Look At It. Chillin’ is a very catchy tune. Close To You Featuring Kirk Whalum is simple, dignified and effective, George Duke refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Creepin’ is George Duke’s best work in years. This song stands out greatly from the others. Let’s Roll - A catchy, upbeat tune. My Piano is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. Once you hear The Black Messiah (Part Two), you will listen to it over and over.
