After seeing Amma, I had to have a good James Asher cd. Lead single “Amma” and “Send In the Drums” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. When you buy a James Asher album, you know exactly what you’re getting! I wish that “Shaman Drums” album was instrumental.
Don’t judge Send In the Drums on the first listening. Red Rhythm Dragon - This one is what it is: a powerful, primal invitation to love. Standing Ngoma has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. After few listenings I started to like Tantango more and more. Some of the arrangements found on Shaman Drums are surprisingly edgy. Red Desert gives taste of what makes James Asher special as a musician. Janjara is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. Music and lyrics of Camel Train creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. Return To Egypt has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. |titile| is a sure sign of something most of us are experiencing, maturity. Pemulwuy Returns is probably one of James Asher’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to.
