Since Gilberto Gil last CD (Sao Joao Vivo) on SixSteps records back in 2001, I have felt a massive void in my life. There is no doubt that Gilberto Gil has talent. Gilberto Gil was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Gilberto Gil and Sao Joao Vivo together. This is one of the best cd’s i have heard through the whole thing.
This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Gilberto Gil. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. Qui Nem Jilo - A classic Gilberto Gil track. Baiao / De Onde Vem O Baiao - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. Lamento Sertanejo (Forro Do Dominguinhos) is one of these floating songs. Cajuina_Refazenda is pretty funky and mellow. Pau De Arara is a astounding sing-along. What sets Respeita Januario apart is Gilberto Gil’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. I was truly moved when I heard O Xote Das Meninas. Eu So Quero Um Xodo is beautiful, yet underrated track. This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on Sao Joao Vivo. Once you hear Esperando Na Janela, you will listen to it over and over. Ultimo Pau De Arara is probably one of Gilberto Gil’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Madalena (Entra Em Beco Sai Em Beco) very upbeat. Toda Menina Baiana is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. Na Casa Dela (3:52) Not one of my favorites, but for a lot of people this is one of their best songs.
