This disc has all of the essential Rick Derringer classics. Self-described as Jazz with lots of words, Rick Derringer comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. This is the first studio album from Rick Derringer since bad diagnosis in 2002. Last Hot Album by Rick Derringer
Blue Velvet is astounding and different song. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Free Ride is Celestial Love. Within the first few notes of Frankenstein (Smooth Frank) it’s perfectly clear that Rick Derringer is living this song. Free Ride very upbeat. Good 2 Go - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Hot Cool, which shows, blatantly, how much Rick Derringer has evolved as a singer. Jazzy Koo (R’n'R Hoochie Koo) is probably one of Rick Derringer’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Jump, Jump, Jump to me is the best you can get from Rick Derringer. Rhapsody In Red is a bit of a show-tune.
