It has been fifteen years John Zorn’ last studio CD, “Filmworks 7: Cynical Hysterie” which won Array Academy Awards� and was nominated for album of the year. John Zorn’s debut, ‘Filmworks 7: Cynical Hysterie’, does not fit easily into one genre. fifteen years ago, John Zorn briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Walk to Park”. I wish that “Filmworks 7: Cynical Hysterie” album was instrumental.
Walk to Park on Filmworks 7: Cynical Hysterie is solid and easy to listen to. Some call Coaster 2 from Filmworks 7: Cynical Hysterie as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. Fighting Pirates - Check out that bassline! I like the idea behind Yakisoba. There is cool mix of music in Coaster Trip. 1st Hit/2nd Hit is really a nice song to relax and listen too. John Zorn sings Punk Rock Hero in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. Abacus Waltz rocked my world when I popped it into my car stereo. Punk Rebel/Tsunta’s Theme is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything John Zorn released so far. End Title stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. Through the Night had me crying as I was able to relate so well. Home Sweet Home is an incredible song that has everything it needs to be another favorite track. Some of the arrangements found on Filmworks 7: Cynical Hysterie are surprisingly edgy. Scary Moonlight is so unique, as each one of the songs is. My Favorite Things is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. Omelet Punk without a doubt is the standout song of Filmworks 7: Cynical Hysterie. The song Classical ending is my favorite… so catchy! Stink of an Onion - For me, this is the best of the album. Onion Samba make listening to John Zorn like being in some sort of time warp. Omelet Punk 2 is such a exquisite and optimistic song that things can get just better. Me and My Hamburger/Final Samba - I like this one. Surfing Samba which is my favorite is a truly John Zorn sounding song.
