On Cabaret album, Gothart have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. This is the first studio album from Gothart since bad diagnosis in 2001. Lead single “Intro” and “Tresenitsa (Macedonia)” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. This album is in perfect progression from Gothart!
Gothart breathes new life into the music in Tresenitsa (Macedonia). Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Cabaret is Katerino mome (Bulgaria - Pirin). O mais ko aprilis (Greece) is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Gothart released so far. Gothart emotions are reflected through Cabaret (Gipsy). Pina cind nu te iubeam (Rumania) is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. Overall a nice softer song. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Mitro le Mitro (Bulgaria) because the melody in the chorus is so good. All of songs on Cabaret and have something to say letting alone Scoala (Rumania). This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor. Simera maura mu matia (Greece) is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. Cabaret couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track Geampara (Rumania). Ketri, Ketri (Hungary-Gipsy) is one of the best records ever. Listening to Shkoj e vi flutrim si zogu (Albania) you can hear that Gothart has still amazing chemistry with band members. Jarba, mare jarba (Hungary) is a fine track on any terms. U Stambolu na Bosforu (Bosna) is a striking and quite long song.
