This fourteen-song debut EP shows the promise that Edgar Froese has. Edgar Froese was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Edgar Froese and Ambient Highway Vol 1 together. Lead single “Sahara Child” and “Stuntman (Part Two)” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Ambient Highway Vol 1 touched my soul like nothing else.
Stuntman (Part Two) - This one is lively and fun. Tierra Del Fuego - a classic song. Heatwave City - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. The Light Cone (Part Two) is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Edgar Froese released so far. I can’t stop humming along Genesta In The Afternoon Glow. When I listen to Gizeh Sunset in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. The song Dome Of The Yellow Turtles ending is my favorite… so catchy! Car Dreaming is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Ambient Highway Vol 1 have ended. Simple and heartfelt closing track Down To Barstow closes Ambient Highway Vol 1 on a high note. Magic Lantern is a pleasing, and full of overall coherence that goes beyond other creations. I now have Pinnacles (Part Two) as one of my personal favorites. Craving For A Rose has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album.
