This disc has all of the essential DJ Spooky classics. On Optometry album, DJ Spooky have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Jim Jones has compared writing for DJ Spooky’s new album to that on ‘Optometry’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. One of DJ Spooky’s best albums yet.
Opening track Reactive Switching Strategies For The Control Of Uninhabited Air shows the best of DJ Spooky. I loved Variation Cybernetique Rhythmic Pataphysic (Part I) (Feat. Daniel Bernard Roumain (Dbr) Solo Violin) the first time I heard it. Asphalt (Tome Ii) (Feat. Carl Hancock Rux (Vocals), Pauline Oliveros) (7:04) - Oh, this is one of my favorites! Optometry (Feat. Billy Martin’s Beats, Daniel Bernard Roumain (Dbr) Solo Violin) is possibly the best song DJ Spooky has come up. DJ Spooky allows each song to breathe and flourish. Rosemary marked the continuation of DJ Spooky in style evolution. I think Dementia Absentia (Dialectical Triangulation Ii) is the best song DJ Spooky has ever done. Parachutes (Feat. Napoleon Of Is What!, Daniel Carter) to me is the best you can get from DJ Spooky. Absentia Absentia (Dialectical Triangulation Iii) (Feat. High Priest Of Anti-Pop Consortium) has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets DJ Spooky’s strong vocals come to the fore. Voice of DJ Spooky in Variation Cybernetique Rhythmic Pataphysic (Part Ii) (Feat. Daniel Bernard Roumain (Dbr) Soul Violin) is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. DJ Spooky breathes new life into the music in Periphique. In It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, World DJ Spooky is at his best.
