eleven years ago, Chris Connor briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “What Is There to Say?”. There were many famous songs of Chris Connor available. Now signed to Chris Connor’s Columbia Records, the title track from second album “Sings Lullabys of Birdland” leads Chris Connor’s back-to-school campaign. I Love Sings Lullabys of Birdland from start to finish!
What Is There to Say? is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. It’s such an underrated song. I’ve found myself listening to Spring Is Here back to back and back many times. Why Shouldn’t I? can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what Chris Connor is all about. I like the agression and power of Ask Me. Don’t judge Blue Silhouette on the first listening. After you’ve listened to Chiquita from Chi-Wah-Wah, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. Cottage for Sale - Check out that bassline! It’s so catchy, it’s amazing. Stella by Starlight is just simply stunning. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor. He’s Coming Home - To me, this is the best song on the Sings Lullabys of Birdland. What sets Goodbye apart is Chris Connor’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. Still going through Sings Lullabys of Birdland and coming to appreciate Why Shouldn’t I? more and more with every listen. Stella By Starlight (alt. take) is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit.
