This is one of the best Cd’s Asleep At The Wheel has dropped to date. Now signed to Asleep At The Wheel’s Mute Records, the title track from second album “Asleep at the Wheel - Live and Kickin: Greatest Hits” leads Asleep At The Wheel’s back-to-school campaign. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Asleep At The Wheel energies, virtually a rebirth. Enjoy the show.
Miles and Miles of Texas is the albums biggest surprise. Take Me Back to Tulsa/Stay All Night is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. Black and White Rag is another favourite of mine. If you are a Asleep At The Wheel fan, you will love Jambalaya (On the Bayou). Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. Only one song from Asleep at the Wheel - Live and Kickin: Greatest Hits named Dance with Who Brung You really got me. This is one of those tracks that should not be judged after the first hearing. Some of the arrangements found on Asleep at the Wheel - Live and Kickin: Greatest Hits are surprisingly edgy. Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Asleep At The Wheel’s strong vocals come to the fore.
